When Is a Replacement Cover Worthwhile?
A new cover is particularly worthwhile when the existing foam core is still dimensionally stable and comfortable and only the outer cover needs to be replaced.
Typical reasons include:
- the old cover is worn or damaged,
- the fabric has faded,
- stains can no longer be removed,
- the existing zipper is defective,
- you want a different colour,
- you want to switch from fabric to faux leather or vice versa.
If the foam is heavily compressed, brittle or permanently deformed, however, a new cover alone is not sufficient. In that case, a completely new cushion is usually the more suitable solution.
Upholstery Covers for Seat Cushions, Chair Cushions, Bench Cushions and Lounge Cushions
Custom-made replacement covers are intended for existing foam cushions. These include upholstery covers, seat cushion covers, chair cushion covers, bench cushion covers and lounge cushion covers.
The important thing is that the existing foam core has a suitable square, rectangular or trapezoidal shape and can be measured correctly.
Custom-Made Seat Cushion Covers
A custom-made seat cushion cover is suitable for existing foam seat cushions on chairs, stools, benches or other seating surfaces.
You keep the existing foam core and order only the new cover in the appropriate dimensions.
Custom-Made Chair Cushion Covers
Chair cushion covers can also be made to fit an existing cushion. This is suitable, for example, for dining, kitchen, bistro or rattan chairs if the foam can continue to be used.
For trapezoidal chair cushions, the front width and rear width are required in addition to the depth.
For suitable angular versions, optional ties can be selected if the chair has a suitable backrest or support for fastening.
Custom-Made Bench Cushion Covers
A custom-made bench cushion cover is suitable for existing cushions on kitchen benches, dining benches, storage benches, window seats or garden benches.
Long cushions can also be fitted with a new cover. The deciding measurements are the width, depth and height of the existing foam core.

Custom-Made Lounge Cushion Covers
For garden lounges and lounge furniture, original replacement cushions are often no longer available after several years. If the existing foam is still usable, only the custom-made lounge cushion cover can be replaced instead.
This is suitable for garden lounges, rattan furniture, polyrattan lounges and pallet cushions, among other applications.

Replacement Covers for Garden Cushions
Existing garden and patio cushions can also be fitted with new covers. Especially with outdoor cushions, the cover may already be faded or damaged even though the foam core can still be used.
Covers for Removable Sofa Seat Cushions
A new cover can also be made for removable sofa seat cushions with a suitable foam core.
These are covers for individual seat cushions. Complete sofa covers that enclose the seat, armrests and back of the entire sofa are not manufactured.

How to Measure Correctly for a Replacement Cover
For a new upholstery cover, measure directly on the existing foam core whenever possible and not on the old cover.
A used cover may have stretched, become distorted or changed through washing over time. Its measurements are therefore not a reliable basis for the new cover.
- Completely remove the old cover from the foam core.
- Lay out the foam without the cover.
- Measure the width from left to right.
- Measure the depth from front to back.
- Measure the height of the foam core.
- For a trapezoid, also determine the front and rear widths.
Check the measurements at several points and use the actual dimensions of the foam core.
The dimensions entered correspond to the intended finished dimensions. Due to the manufacturing process, deviations of up to approximately ±1 cm may occur.

Square, Rectangular or Trapezoidal
Custom-made upholstery covers can be manufactured for different geometric foam core shapes.
- Square: for many chair and seat cushions, for example
- Rectangular: for bench cushions, lounge cushions and longer seat cushions, for example
- Trapezoidal: for seating surfaces with different widths at the front and back
Free-form curved shapes, complex cut-outs or complete covers made from templates are not available.
Which Material Is Suitable for the Replacement Cover?
Replacement covers are available in Panama, faux leather, Mali, Textura Plus, Premium Faux Leather B2 and Premium Faux Leather B1. Which material is suitable mainly depends on where it will be used and the desired cleaning method.
Panama has a textile surface and can be washed at 30°C after removal. Faux leather can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. Mali is a velour fabric for more heavily used indoor cushions.
For regular outdoor use, Textura Plus and Premium Faux Leather B2 are particularly suitable. Premium Faux Leather B1 is flame-retardant according to DIN 4102 B1 and is intended for projects with corresponding fire-safety requirements.

Replacement Covers for Garden Furniture and Outdoor Cushions
For existing garden, lounge and patio cushions, a new cover can be a suitable solution if the foam core can still be used.
Textura Plus and Premium Faux Leather B2 are particularly suitable for regular outdoor use.
Important: Even a cover material suitable for outdoor use does not make the complete cushion waterproof. Moisture can reach the existing foam core through the seams and zipper.
During prolonged rain and longer periods of non-use, the cushions should therefore be stored in a protected, dry place.
Replace Only the Cover or the Complete Cushion?
Whether a replacement cover is sufficient depends primarily on the condition of the existing foam.
A replacement cover is suitable if:
- the foam still retains its shape,
- the cushion is still comfortable to sit on,
- the core is not crumbling or damaged,
- only the cover, colour or material needs to be changed.
A completely new cushion is suitable if:
- the foam is noticeably compressed,
- the core is permanently deformed,
- the foam is damaged or brittle,
- you also need different dimensions or a different cushion thickness.

Choose a New Colour or Different Material
A replacement cover does not have to look the same as the previous cover. You can continue using the existing foam core while changing the colour or material at the same time.
This makes it possible to change the appearance of dining chairs, bench cushions or lounge cushions, for example, without replacing the existing foam.
Replacement Covers for Hospitality and Commercial Areas
Even when several existing seat cushions are involved, it can be worthwhile replacing only the covers. This is suitable, for example, for restaurants, hotels, medical practices, waiting areas or other facilities.
