Which Bench Cushion Is Suitable for Which Type of Bench?

Lekoni® bench cushions are made in rectangular or square shapes. Width, depth, cushion thickness, fabric, colour and fastening can be selected to suit the furniture and the intended use.

• Kitchen bench and dining bench: For many benches at a dining table, a cushion thickness of 4 cm is sufficient. Depending on the desired appearance and cleaning requirements, you can choose between textile, washable and wipe-clean materials.
• Wooden bench: On rough or untreated wooden surfaces, a bench cushion often stays relatively stable without additional fastening. On smooth, lacquered or oiled surfaces, an anti-slip mat or suitable fastening may be useful.
• Corner bench: Cushions for corner benches are made as several separate rectangular or square sections, one for each side. Wedge shapes, angled edges, curves and cut-outs are not available.
• Garden bench: For a garden bench, the main consideration is whether the cushion will only be used in a sheltered area or regularly outdoors. Guidance on choosing the right material can be found further down this page.
• Windowsill and seating niche: Narrow, long or square cushions can also be custom-made.
• Storage bench and hallway bench: On smooth seating surfaces, an anti-slip mat can help reduce slipping. Ties are available if there is a suitable backrest or support bar for fastening.
• Beer bench and marquee furniture: Long, narrow seat cushions can be made in one piece up to a width of 260 cm.
• Church pew, waiting bench, sauna bench and contract interiors: For larger quantities and special requirements relating to cleaning, durability or fire safety, the material and design can be selected to suit the individual project.

Seat Cushions for Benches: One Continuous Cushion or Several Individual Cushions?

For a bench, you can choose either one continuous bench cushion or several individual seat cushions. Which option is more suitable depends on the length of the bench, how it will be used and the desired appearance.

• One continuous bench cushion creates a calm, uniform appearance and avoids gaps between individual cushions. It is particularly suitable when the entire seating area is to be cushioned continuously.
• Several individual seat cushions visually divide the bench into separate seating positions. They can be removed, cleaned or replaced individually when required.

For long benches, two or three equally sized bench cushions can also be a practical solution. Smaller sections are easier to transport and store than one very long cushion.

All sections can be made in the same fabric and colour. If the bench is positioned at a dining table, matching chair cushions from the same fabric collection can also be added.

How to Measure a Bench Cushion Correctly: Available Dimensions and Shapes

We manufacture bench cushions and back cushions in rectangular or square shapes up to a width of 260 cm and a depth of 100 cm. There is no fixed minimum size; however, the respective minimum price applies to small cushions.

Measure the width and depth directly on the furniture whenever possible. The dimensions of an old cushion may differ if it has become compressed, distorted or shifted over time. Especially with older wooden benches, check the seating area at several points.

As a back cushion, a rectangular or square cushion can also be used. We do not manufacture special shapes, wedges, curves, cut-outs, chamfered corners or cushions made from templates.

These bench cushions are also made individually only after your order has been placed. We do not keep ready-made standard sizes in stock. The prices in the table apply to a cushion thickness of 4 cm. Prices for 6 or 8 cm are shown in the configurator after selection.

Calculate the Price of a Bench Cushion Yourself

The price of a bench cushion is based on its area and the selected material. For an initial calculation, multiply width x depth in metres and then multiply the result by the price per square metre shown in the following table.

The stated prices per square metre apply to a cushion thickness of 4 cm. A surcharge is calculated in the configurator for 6 or 8 cm. The respective minimum price also applies to small cushions.

An example: Your bench measures 143 x 41 cm. This corresponds to 1.43 x 0.41 m and therefore an area of 0.5863 m². In Panama fabric, the cushion costs €82.08 with a cushion thickness of 4 cm; in Premium Faux Leather B1, approximately €146.58.

The minimum price applies to very small cushions. For Panama fabric, it corresponds approximately to a square cushion measuring 42 x 42 cm, and for Premium Faux Leather B1 approximately 49 x 49 cm. Smaller dimensions can also be ordered, but the price will not fall below the respective minimum price.

Which Cushion Thickness Is Suitable for Your Bench?

The cushion thickness affects seating comfort, appearance and the resulting seat height. We use foam with a density of 35 and compression hardness of 5.0.

• 4 cm – the compact standard thickness for kitchen benches, dining benches, windowsills, hallway benches and waiting areas.
• 6 cm – additional cushioning for hard seating surfaces or for greater comfort during longer periods of sitting.
• 8 cm – a substantial and clearly visible cushion thickness for deep seating areas, garden benches and lounge-style settings.

When choosing the thickness, take the existing seat height into account. An 8 cm cushion significantly changes the distance to the table and may be too high for a dining bench.

How to Keep a Bench Cushion from Slipping: Ties or Anti-Slip Mat?

On smooth seating surfaces made from lacquered wood, metal or plastic, a bench cushion may slip during use. There are two options:

• Ties – can be selected as an optional extra in the configurator. They are located at the rear corners on the zipper side and are suitable when the bench has a backrest or support bars to which they can be attached.
• Anti-slip mat – placed underneath the bench cushion and can be cut to the required size. It is particularly suitable for smooth seating surfaces where ties cannot be attached. A suitable anti-slip mat is available in the accessories range.

Whether additional fastening is required depends on the bench surface, the weight of the cushion and how it is used. On rough or untreated wooden surfaces, the cushion often stays in place more securely than on smooth surfaces.

Outdoor Bench Cushions for Garden Benches, Patios and Balconies

For a garden bench cushion, the most important consideration is how and where it will be used. A covered patio has different requirements from a cushion that is regularly exposed to sunlight, moisture or changing weather conditions.

• Sheltered outdoor area: If the bench is under cover and the cushion is brought indoors when it rains, Panama, Mali or faux leather may also be suitable depending on the desired appearance.
• Regular outdoor use: Textura Plus and Premium Faux Leather B2 are designed for more demanding outdoor use. The exact choice of material depends on whether a textile or smooth, wipe-clean surface is preferred.
• Outdoor area with fire-safety requirements: Premium Faux Leather B1 can be used if the project additionally requires a flame-retardant version according to DIN 4102 B1.

Depending on the version, Textura Plus and the Premium Faux Leathers offer properties such as water repellency, resistance to chlorinated and salt water, and high resistance to cold temperatures. These specifications refer to the respective cover material.

Important: The finished cushion is not completely waterproof. During prolonged contact with water or exposure to standing moisture, water can penetrate the foam core through seams and the zipper. A bench cushion with a suitable outdoor cover should therefore also be stored in a sheltered location during prolonged rain and longer periods of non-use.

Store the cushion in a dry place and, if possible, without keeping it permanently compressed. Cushions that have become damp should be allowed to dry completely before being stored or stacked.

If the foam core is still usable, a suitable replacement cover can be ordered at a later date.

Which Fabric Is Suitable for Your Bench?

When choosing the material, the first consideration is whether the bench cushion will be used indoors, in a sheltered outdoor area or regularly outdoors. The desired appearance, cleaning method and level of use also play a role.

• Kitchen, dining and hallway bench: Panama offers a textile, homely surface and is washable at 30°C. Faux leather has a smooth surface and can be wiped clean with a damp cloth.
• Heavily used indoor bench: Mali is a robust velour fabric with a soft textile surface.
• Hospitality, waiting areas and regular outdoor use: Textura Plus combines a textile appearance with a wipe-clean surface and is also suitable for outdoor use.
• Heavily used areas and outdoor spaces: Premium Faux Leather B2 provides a robust, smooth and wipe-clean surface.
• Projects with B1 requirements: Premium Faux Leather B1 is flame-retardant according to DIN 4102 B1. Whether this version is required and sufficient for a specific project should be clarified with the responsible authority before ordering.

Bench Cushions for Hospitality, Care Facilities and Contract Interiors

Lekoni® manufactures bench cushions and seat cushions for restaurants, cafés, hotels, care facilities, clinics, medical practices, churches, clubs, saunas and public institutions – from single items to larger quantities.

In commercial and public environments, robust surfaces, easy cleaning and, where applicable, specific fire-safety requirements often play an important role.

• Premium Faux Leather B2 is suitable for heavily used areas and for projects requiring a robust, wipe-clean surface.
• Premium Faux Leather B1 is flame-retardant according to DIN 4102 B1. Whether this version is required and sufficient for a particular building or project should be clarified with the responsible authority before ordering.

According to the respective technical material specifications, the Premium Faux Leathers are resistant, among other things, to selected disinfectants and various substances encountered in everyday use. What is the minimum price?

A minimum price applies to very small bench cushions because cutting, sewing and production involve a basic amount of work regardless of size. The minimum price is €24.95 for Panama, €29.95 for faux leather, €39.95 for Mali, €49.95 for Textura Plus and Premium Faux Leather B2, and €59.95 for Premium Faux Leather B1.

Do individual intermediate dimensions cost more?

No. Individual dimensions are calculated in exactly the same way as round-number dimensions. The decisive factors are the area, selected material and cushion thickness. A bench cushion measuring 143 x 41 cm therefore does not automatically cost more than one measuring 150 x 40 cm.

Is one continuous bench cushion or are several individual seat cushions better?

One continuous bench cushion creates a calm, uniform seating surface without gaps. Several individual seat cushions are easier to transport, store, clean or replace separately when required. Which solution is more suitable depends on the bench, how it is used and the desired appearance.

Does Lekoni® manufacture cushions for corner benches?

Yes. Cushions for corner benches are made as several separate rectangular or square cushions, one for each side. Measure each area individually. Wedge shapes, angled edges, curves and cut-outs are not available.

Does Lekoni® manufacture cushions for benches with backrests?

Yes. The seat and backrest can be fitted with two separate rectangular or square cushions. Both areas are measured and configured individually. We do not manufacture connected seat-and-back cushions or special shapes.

Which fabric is suitable for indoor bench cushions?

Different materials are suitable for kitchen, dining and hallway benches. Panama has a homely textile surface and is washable at 30°C. Faux leather is smooth and can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. For more heavily used seating areas, Mali provides a robust, soft velour surface.

How can a bench cushion be secured to prevent slipping?

Ties can be selected in the configurator if the bench has a suitable backrest or support bars for fastening. On smooth seating surfaces without a fastening option, an anti-slip mat can be placed under the bench cushion and cut to the required size.

Are garden bench cushions waterproof?

No. Suitable outdoor materials may be water-repellent, but the finished cushion is not completely waterproof. During prolonged contact with water, moisture can enter the foam core through seams and the zipper. The cushion should therefore be stored in a sheltered place during prolonged rain.

Can bench cushions remain outdoors during winter?

Permanent outdoor storage is not recommended. Even with cold-resistant cover materials, moisture can enter the cushion through seams and the zipper. Store the bench cushion in a dry place during longer periods of non-use and avoid keeping it permanently compressed.

Is the bench cushion cover removable?

Yes. The cover is fitted with a zipper and can be removed from the foam core. Whether it can be washed or wiped clean with a damp cloth depends on the selected material. The relevant care instructions can be found with the product and in the material overview.

Can only the cover be replaced later?

Yes. If the existing foam core is still usable, you can order a suitable replacement cover. A different available colour can also be selected.

Can a custom-made bench cushion be returned?

Bench cushions are manufactured individually according to your specified dimensions and configuration and therefore cannot be returned under the standard right of withdrawal. Details can be found in the cancellation policy. Your rights in the event of defects or transport damage remain unaffected.

How long does delivery take?

The current delivery time is displayed with the product and during the ordering process. As every bench cushion is manufactured individually, the delivery time may vary depending on the material, design and order quantity. Further information can be found under Payment and Shipping.

Is there a minimum order quantity?

No. You can order a single bench cushion as well as larger quantities for commercial or public-sector applications.
